Systems man by day,
acolyte by night.

Most of us learn to answer “tell me about yourself” with a job title. I’ve been trying to unlearn that.

So this site is the other answer. What I’m curious about, what I’m building badly before I build it well, what I’m reading, who I’m rooting for, and generally what I’m thinking. I hope that, even in some small way, you find something here that is helpful.

If you want to know what I do for a living, it’s further down the page.

What I’m into

Sport

Chelsea FC, the Thunder, and the Steelers. Any one of them can ruin my mood after a loss, so I’ve turned my frustration into an interest in how coaches explain a loss rather than the loss itself.

Moving

Running and basketball. Strava.

Stories with knights, siths and rangers

Star Wars — the dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. Power Rangers, unapologetically. And Game of Thrones: “I will take Ser Duncan’s side.”

Learning things badly on purpose

Spanish, cycling, electronics. I 'like' the stage where you're visibly bad at something.

What I’ve written

Life

In the time I had I gave everything I had.

I Wish You Good FortuneRhetorical analysis

Badenoch opens by pressing the Prime Minister to clear up his position on a referendum on rejoining the European Union.

PMQs (Oct 28th) Badenoch vs Burnham Part 1Weathering the Storm

Tipping your hat to the other side, and stacking the reps that actually make you better.

The résumé bit

Lead DevOps Engineer. AWS infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, containers, AI and Linux fleets — plus the cloud spend, which turns out to be its own engineering problem.
